Remus Story (SORRY - No Pictures... YET) - 6/14/2006

Okay -I haven't sent pictures - I'll work on that, I promise.  Tonight or tomorrow, I'll send the ones I have out.  Anyhow, to tie you over until then, here's how our morning went --

5:00 AM:  Remus knees me in the nose.

5:05 AM:  Remus starts fussing for "mommy-muk."

5:10 AM:  Remus finishes nursing and promptly falls back asleep.  I know this because this is when he started snoring.

5:15 AM: I have gotten down stairs and made a cup of tea.

5:30 AM: I have finished making Remus' lunch - today I am sendig Ravioli with homemade tomato sauce which is really canned tomato sauce that I mixed with some steamed veggies, garlic and ground up sausage.

5:45 AM: I have finished programming the VCR and satellite TV to tape all three of today's World Cup games.  I have also watched the weather and traffic segment of the news.

6:00 AM: I have taken a few moments to finish 2 rows on a swatch for a present for little Georgia C., due sometime this month, and have watched the opening minutes of the today's first WC match.  I finish my tea and head upstairs to get ready.

6:05 AM: I have just finished brushing my teeth and getting ready and am in the process of picking out a jacket to wear when I hear Remus crying. I go to Remus' bedroom and have picked him up.  He stops crying and puts his head on my shoulder, still very sleepy.

6:07 AM: I am now dealing with a grump.  He does not like the shirt picked out for him, nor does he like the fact that I have not put "Big Boy" pants on him (I put a regular diaper on, not a pull-up).  He HATES the sweater vest I have put over the shirt (it's knitted and no, I didn't make it).  He keeps tugging on the vest complaining that he wants his "Big Boy Red Shirt" which is an oversize red shirt that he's been wearing as pajamas right now.  (He has many red shirts but only this one is actually referred to as the "Red Shirt."  You can almost hear the capital letters when he says that - it's like a name.)

6:15 AM: I can almost taste victory - while he's still crying over his vest and shirt and lack of Red Shirt and I have stopped him from constantly pulling at the vest tp take it off by putting his jacket on and zipping it up.  We have gotten his pants on, during which even my normal diversion tactic of "Look!  These jeans have POCKETS!  These jeans have BEARS on them!" didn't work.  He kept crying throughout putting on socks.  He just kept saying "I wanta Red Shirt.  I don wanta this." (and by the way, that's EXACTLY how he said it, it's not a typo).    All this aside, we have gotten out the garage door and he's pushed the door open button (crying "I wanta Red Shirt" the whole time), I have put his lunch and my purse on the drivers side, and am just getting ready to put him when I am stopped dead in my tracks by his exclamation: "Mommy!  Where my shoes?"

6:23 AM: I have gotten Remus back in the house.  He is now considerably more cheerful, he immediately perked up when he realized that his comment about no shoes finally made me do something HE wanted to do.  I thanked him for doing a good job and being such a big boy and being so smart about catching the fact that he only had socks on.  He is even happier that I have let him pick out the shoes he's going to wear today - brown shoes, not blue.  Which took some will power on my part as his vest and jeans would have coordinated better with his BLUE shoes, which he never chooses.  The brown one's don't look too bad, so I let it slide, I figure if it makes him happy it's worth it.  We are now in the car, and are FINALLY headed off to day care.  Amazingly enough, we are ON SCHEDULE!!!

6:30 AM: We have just pulled into the day care parking lot - Remus is MUCH happier because we listened to the Happy Birthday song on repeat for the full ride to school.  We sang loudly to the puppy dog and kitty cat versions as well.

6:35 AM: We have gotten into day care, and taken off Remus' jacket and miraculously, he has forgotten about the hated vest.  He's fine with it now.  While I hang up his jacket and put away his lunch, he has gone over to their "kitchen" and is pretending to cook some plastic eggs, all the while saying "I cookin' a-rice an a-tofut an a-sausage" (again, I am spelling phonetically and it's EXACTLY as he said it).

6:40 AM: Several kisses, hugs, nose rubs, nose kisses, forehead kisses and two thrown kisses later, I am finally leaving day care to go to work.

6:41 AM: I miss him already.

Fwd: Pardon My Absence...

Here's where I make my excuses -

I haven't blogged in forever because:
1.  My digital camera broke (read: it fell out of my car and got runover by another car before I realized it was missing) at the beginning of November and we didn't get a replacement in 'till December 30th.
2.  My workplace banned blogging in December - (I'm posting this via e-mail on a personal account so it won't get me in trouble... I think.  It's a gray area, I guess).
3.  I was too frustrated with the slow dial up at home to bother posting 1 picture every hour on the weekends.

So, to make up for lost time, I'm going to see how this e-mail posting goes...  I wonder if I can post pictures?  I will try and hopefully we'll have beat the blog blackout...

In Remus related news - he's talking a lot now. More and more frequently using 3-word sentences and often incorporating his own thoughts rather than just repeating what he's told.  He's starting to show a real personality - he can be stubborn (wonder where he got that from), he's compassionate (he doesn't like to see other sad, and will go as far as to give up his favorite toy to another child who is crying), and most of all, he wants to please you (90% of the time he'll listen if you just say "please.").

I know most mothers would say this about their children but he's the sweetest little boy, and such a good kid.  We're so lucky that he's as wonderful as he is.

DaddyR and I were just saying that no matter what our faults (me - messy, him - sometimes insensitive), we've done at least ONE great thing in our lives... and that is Remus.

Labor Day Weekend on the Mountains

Family R got to go hiking and visiting local mountains on Labor Day weekend. Rarely are Mommy R and Daddy R off on the same days so it was nice to do things as a family.

On Sunday, we went to King's Mountain where we hiked to the summit. Here's a picture of us at the top:

Yes people, that reads 3226, and that's FEET!!! The hike was 2.5 miles long and felt like it was straight up. There were some grades that were steeper than a 45 degree angle (that was told to me by Daddy R, in the middle of an exceptionally difficult stretch. I think he was trying to encourage me but it didn't work). Anyhow, we borrowed a backpack carrier from a friend and Daddy R CARRIED LM ALL THE WAY UP!!!! And not only that, but he wasn't even that tired at the end of it all!!! I, by the way, was EXHAUSTED!!!

On Monday we went to visit Mt. St. Helens in WA. Here's a few pictures of LM in the carrier and in front of Mt. St. Helens.

All in all, it was a great weekend! We all had fun (and only a little sore!).

33 Days Later...

So I can't believe I've been gone for so long! Things have been going crazy around here. First and Foremost - I will do "catch up" posts so that everyone can see what LM's been up to.

Secondly, here's a before and after picture of LM. The left side is the picture the day after his 'accident' and the right is a picture of him yesterday. Isn't youth AMAZING? Our hope is that the scar will be invisible when he gets older...

We'll see -- and more later, I promise!
